Business Documents

Business Documents play an important and vital role in business. Whether it is a business proposal, business plan, marketing plan, executive summary, or regular business correspondence, these documents convey information to investors, staff or customers. Each business document serves a specific purpose.

Business Plans

Business Plans are used to secure financing, stimulate investor/partner interest in a business, and chart the course for the business concern. Every business concern should have a business plan. It should be reviewed every 6-12 months.

Financial Plans

A Financial Plan is an integral component of the business plan. It identifies start-up costs and expenses, sales and expense projections, budgets, and cash flow. A Financial Plan can be a precursor to a Business Plan in that it may identify if a particular business model is a viable venture.

Business Proposals

Business Proposals can be from 3-10 pages and are useful to generate and stimulate interest in a business concern. They can contain photo-imagery so that the reader “sees” the idea. This document can be presented to prospective customers, investors, and partners. It is a valuable tool to determine if your business has a foundation upon which a business can be built.

Executive Summaries

Executive Summaries are the synopsis of a Business Plan. A carefully crafted document, it must reduce a 30-60 page business plan into 2-3 pages. This tool serves as a precursor to presenting a Business Plan to investors as oftentimes an investor simply doesn’t have the time to review a 30-60 page document (especially if he/she has twenty sitting on his/her desk). A seasoned investor quickly will determine if your business concern is something in which to become involved. If your Executive Summary is successful, a request for your Business Plan will be forthcoming.

Summary Documents

Summary Documents serve much the same purpose as an Executive Summary. Perhaps you have a product or service you would like to introduce to current, or prospective, customers and clients. This document serves as an introduction and is designed to compel the reader into taking further action

Sponsorship Documents

A Sponsorship Document serves to generate interest in a product, service, or event that the reader may receive a benefit from association. This document describes your particular situation and identifies the benefits a “Sponsorship” might provide to the participant.

Employee/Employer Documents

These documents include Employee Manuals, Policy and Procedure Manuals, Terms of Employment (including “At Will”), Employee Recognition and Reward Programs, and most any document an employer might desire as part of their usual and customary business practices.

Website Content

Product and Service descriptions, Terms of Use, Privacy Policies, Terms and Conditions, Auto E-mail responses, and general web content.

Copy Writing, Copy Editing, and Proofreading

Copy Writing encompasses the spectrum of designing, engineering and writing copy specific to your business objective. Copy Editing is performed on customer/client generated copy and assists in “polishing” the copy. Copy Editing includes proofreading (spelling, grammar, punctuation, syntax, format) and “wordsmithing”. Proofreading includes a comprehensive spelling check, proper use of grammar, correct use of punctuation, and syntax.

Resumes, KSAs, and Cover Letters

Resumes are an important tool designed to generate an invitation for an interview. Nothing more. Nothing less. An effective Cover Letter should be designed to stand out from other applicant documents and compel the reader into granting you an interview. The method of how a Resume and Cover Letter are delivered, or presented, to a hiring manager can increase the likelihood of an invitation for an interview.

KSA (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities) documents usually are a requirement for anyone applying for a government job (local, state, or federal). This document must meet all the requirements outlined in the job description or your entire application for employment may not be considered. This document describes, in detail, how your specific work experience will be applied to the position for which you are applying. Best document wins.
